Mission Statement
- City University of New York (CUNY) Trustees approved the proposal advanced by Kingsborough Community College to create a University-wide Institute for Virtual Enterprise (IVE) as a special CUNY initiative in May 2002.
- IVE is structured to meet the rapidly evolving needs of today's students who require active learning, including simulations and problem-based learning in a student-centered, student-led learning community, if they are to adapt to the rapidly changing world around them.
- IVE/CUNY's mission is to enhance student engagement and success by building awareness in Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and Environmental Preservation within a context of Sustainable Development.
- IVE/CUNY is aware that the conflict between the twin societal imperatives of economic development and environmental preservation can be resolved to the benefit of society through sustainable practices and that such a conflict resolution is necessary for the continued health and happiness of New York's inhabitants.
- IVE/CUNY is actively pursuing the development of programs that foster such awareness among CUNY's more than 450,000 students and faculty.
- IVE/CUNY initiatives are characterized by being student-centered and student-led, faculty facilitated instruction, providing opportunities for applying academic learning in new curricula constructs, technology driven hybrid models, and close interaction with private sector and community groups.
- To support IVE/CUNY's program components, faculty development that transforms teaching, support networks and program dissemination strategies have been developed and deployed.
- During the past two years IVE/CUNY has worked collaboratively with Nurture New York 's Nature, Inc. (NNYN) and its precedent organizations to develop initiatives that provide for ecological literacy (environmental awareness) and environmental leadership in New York's classroom and communities.
