Ted Kheel's Insights on Environmental Leadership

On February 7th, 2007 a group of CUNY student leaders participated in the first Leadership Roundtable of this years Leadership Program. The topic of the Evening was nvironmental Leadership: Nurture New Yorks Nature and Beyond and was presented by our host Mr. Ted Kheel, President and CEO of NNYN. Mr. Kheel shared his insights in how to best resolve a conflict and how we can contribute to save our planet through sustainable development. After Mr. Kheels presentation, the students engaged in a personal discussion about how sustainable development can help to fill the gap between unrestricted economic growth and natural preservation.

Mr. Kheel has been a mediator all of his life and developed his passion for the environment at the UN world conference in Brazil in 1992 on ways to encourage environmentally sound development. This conference built the foundation of his idea of sustainable development and how the basic rules of conflict resolution are the key within this discussion.

The following two books built the center of the evenings discussion:
1-The Creation: An Appeal to Save Life on Earth by E.O. Wilson
2-The Keys to Conflict Resolution by Theodore W. Kheel
