IVE Crowns Winners of 2007 Leadership Program |
On May 30th, 2007 CUNY student participants in this years CUNY / IVE Leadership Program presented their projects in a culmination of the semesters work. The Leadership Finals were a tribute to social awareness, innovation and creativity, dedication to an idea, and self-awareness. Ten CUNY student teams representing more than half of CUNYs campuses presented their final projects using PowerPoint to a jury, friends of IVE, students and fellow participants of the 5th Annual CUNY/IVE Leadership Program.
The host of the evening was Dr. Garrie W. Moore, CUNY Vice-Chancellor for Student Development. IVE would like to thank him for his hospitality and his continued support for the program.
Moderated by Edgar Troudt and Christoph Winkler, the student groups presented their projects before a panel of five esteemed judges including Monica Ko (Strategic Talent Manger, Pitney Bowes) Patricia Beene (CFO of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum), Richard Levitt (Consultant), Robert Gee (Litigation Paralegal, Torys LLP), and Dr. Otis Hill (Consultant and former CUNY Vice-Chancellor). The projects and groups reflected not only CUNYs diverse student body, but the student bodys diverse interests with students focusing on international students, educational enrichment for students in the Dominican Republic, CUNY-based recycling programs, and environmental awareness. After the judges recess and a surprise song performance of Hjordys Matos of City College the winners were announced:
1st Place: Marisol del Valle of Hunter College (www.starvingstudentsny.com) 2nd Place: Olga Fuchsova of Kingsborough Community College (Political Science Club) 3rd Place: Patrick Chen of Queens College (Operation Unbound Cognizance)
Each member of the winning teams received the following amount in Barnes and Nobles gift cards: $140 (1st place), $100 (2nd place), and $60 (3rd place). In addition, all students who participate in the Leadership Program received certificates of participation and $20 gift cards.
IVE Director Dr. Stuart Schulman and Associate and Program Director Christoph Winkler presented the certificates of participation to all students and invited the presenters to continue their work as part of the IVE Leadership Summer Incubator. In order to secure summer stipends/funding, the students will have to submit a proposal for funding by June 22nd.
IVE would like to commend all students on their accomplishments and is looking forward to helping them to continue the work on their projects.
