IVE Awards Most Innovative CUNY Student Projects

On June 2, 2010, the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise hosted the Final Competitive Event of the eighth iteration of its CUNY IVE Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Program: The event, which took place at CUNY’s Central Office, featured 15 dedicated CUNY student groups who conducted presentations about their leadership and social entrepreneurship projects to more than 60 attendees comprised of peers, mentors, and private/public sector partners.. These project presentations were the result of a semester of hard work. Projects reflected the students’ diverse interests, ranging from initiatives geared towards aiding Haiti’s earthquake victims, to creating community gardens throughout Harlem, to mentorship programs for young adults in various school settings.

After each presentation, the students were questioned by a panel of judges, including Ms. Lovaeta K. Amoako, Community Associate for Community Board 8; Ms. Monica Dean, Director of the Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship; Dr. Richard Graziano, Chairman of the Tourism and Hospitality Department at Kingsborough Community College; Mr. Demond Mullins, Member of the Board of Directors of Veterans Green Jobs; and Ms. Martha Stark, Distinguished Lecturer at Baruch College. Choosing a winner was not an easy task for the judges who rated the presentations based on overall presentation skills, the handling of questions, and the use of PowerPoint.

IVE applauds all presenters and congratulates the top three groups who were awarded with Staples gift cards for their performance. And the winners are….

First Place ($500): Genius Empire founded by John Parson
Second Place ($250): Each One Teach One founded by Elischia Fludd
Third Place ($125): City Agriculture Network founded by Johnny Haung

The next step for all participating student leaders and entrepreneurs will be an opportunity to participate in IVE’s stipended Summer Incubator, where they will be able to further advance their projects and make them a reality.
