On April 11, 2011 the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise held their 4th event of the 9th annual Leadership and Social
Entrepreneurship Program. The event, which took place at
Baruch College’s Field Center for Entrepreneurship, was CUNY IVE’s third hybrid roundtable, giving
students an opportunity to experience the presentation both on-site
and via the web using IBM’s Lotus Sametime Unyte meeting software. Our featured speaker and discussion leader for
the event was Dr. Pardeep Natarajan of the IBM Informix R&D | SQL Team.
Dr. Pardeep gave students a more in depth look into IBM initiative Smarter Planet.
By using a smart information management system, IBM is able to manage data smarter, faster, and at a lower cost.
One of the key systems that IBM uses is the Informix Dynamic Server (IDS). Since the world is becoming instrumented,
interconnected, and intelligent, the need for a smart information system is becoming more needed.
The Informix system has been used to make smarter railroad systems, transit systems, healthcare, government, traffic,
and energy. Students engaged Dr.Pardeep with questions on how they could incorporate the Informix system into their businesses.
