On May 10, 2011 the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise held their 2nd Roundtable of the 9th Annual Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Program. The event, which took place at Baruch College’s Field Center for Entrepreneurship, gave students an opportunity to learn from a seasoned entrepreneur about how to take an idea and transform it into a business. Mr. Henning Seip, founder and owner of SkillPROOF Inc. was the featured speaker and roundtable discussion leader.
Mr. Seip’s entrepreneurial journey started with the identification of a need to better and more efficiently connect job seekers with employers, and vice versa. His solution ultimately resulted in the creation of the online job search website Krazoom.com, which matches job seekers skills profiles with potential employers’ job postings. This process stands out against other job search sites by giving job seekers a more efficient way to identify potential employers and consequently improve their chances for an interview. During the discussion the students were able to ask questions about their own business ideas and how they will be able to turn their ideas into a business. Mr. Seips recommendations range from having the correct resources, doing due diligence, having the correct timing for the business, having self-confidence and a little bit of luck. In the end Mr. Seips believes that you have to give it a chance.
