SmartPitch Challenge 2012 Kickoff Event
On February 3rd, 2012 the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise held their 10th annual Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Program Kick-Off. The Inaugural SmartPitch Challenge took place at The William & Anita Newman Conference Center, Baruch College. IVE is proud to partner with the Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship at Baruch College, IBM and Sunshine Suites Bronx Business Incubator. The collaboration between CUNY IVE and its partners has allowed the Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Program to exceed previous offerings by providing resources critical to any NYC College student looking to pursue their entrepreneurial dream.
This kick-off event had the largest attendance in recent years and the enthusiasm and engagement set forth by all who were in attendance exceeded expectations. The event started with Dr. Stuart Schulman, Executive Director of the CUNY IVE program giving a welcome speech followed by Dr. Edward Rogoff, Lawrence N. Field Professor of Entrepreneurship. Then a special promotional video about the competition was shown. After the video, the event switched tempo and gave the students a chance to hear from an Entrepreneurship Panel. The Moderator Dan Allen, Entrepreneur and Founder Super Mango Media, field questions to the panelists: Cheni Yerushalmi, Entrepreneur and Founder Sunshine Suites, Rolando Franco, Executive IT Architect at IBM, Dr. Stuart Schulman, Executive Director CUNY IVE. The students listened to the panelist discuss the various spectrums of entrepreneurship followed by a Q & A session.
After the panel, Dr. Christoph Winkler, Associate Director, of CUNY IVE took the stage and explained the details of the program. For the first time since its inception 10 years ago, the challenge is opened to any New York City College student. The response from the attendees regarding the SmartPitch Challenge exemplified the tone of the event, which was pure enthusiasm and excitement. As the event was coming to a close, a bit of live social networking took place as well as e-networking with the use of the live twitter feed that was rolling throughout the event. Lastly, the SmartPitch video area had seen some heavy traffic from last minute students who hadnít had the chance to record earlier in the event to document their ideas that will be posted to the CUNY IVE social networking site at cunyive.ning.com.
