Over a period of four months, a student cohort of almost 40 students across the University worked on a series of community related leadership topics. On June 1st, 2005 the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise invited all participating teams to present their project outcomes to their peers, faculty and guests in the ?Lounge at CUNY Central Office. The meeting was sponsored by VC Dr. Otis Hill, whose vision and support for the Leadership Program are the foundation for its great success over the past three years.
The host of the evening was IVE Fellow Marvin M. Williams who guided both students and audience though an evening of great leadership
and inspiring presentations. The student projects and performances were
evaluated and assessed by a jury which was comprised of Kathy Lao (JP
Morgan), Richard Levit (Consultant), Tsedale M. Melaku (Milbank, Tweed,
Headley and McCloy LLP), Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz (Kingsborough Community
College), and Michael Simmons (Bank of America Youth Entrepreneurship
Program). “It was a close race,” said Christoph Winkler, Program
Director, when he announced the winners:
First Place: QC Planet (John Zhang,
Ji H. Oh, Aung Kyan Chi, Amin El-Rowmeim, Hang Pan)
Second Place: High
School Initiative (Rohan Narine, Jonny Salinas)
Third Place: Harbor
Herons (Tim Duffy, Michelle Ososrio)
Third Place: Public
Transportation (Paul Zapitielli)
Dr. Stuart Schulman, Director of IVE, and VC Dr. Otis Hill recognized
the courage and commitment of Madeline Schwartz, who was working on a
project to reestablish the CUNY Coalition for Students with Disabilities.
IVE wants to congratulate all participating teams and winners for their
leadership and commitment to their projects.
Eight teams chose to continue their work and will enter the summer incubator
phase to refine and further develop their projects.
