IVE Leadership Program Enters Fifth Cycle |
More than twenty student teams, representing thirteen CUNY campuses, attended the official Kick-Off Event of the Fifth Annual CUNY / IVE Leadership Program at Hunter College on February 2nd, 2007. The students engaged in a lively discussion about leadership and brainstormed about possible topics and projects. The discussion continued online and it seems that there will be a strong focus this year seems to be on environmental and community-based projects. Within the next couple of months the participating teams will be reaching out to their community, identify a problem within their community, ask pertinent questions, develop feasible answers, and make those answers actionable. Program Director, Christoph Winkler is excited about the passion and energy the program participants bring to the table and is looking forward to an engaging and productive semester. Students are still able to join the program
Leadership is not an isolated skill set; rather, it is a set of skills that helps to articulate passions and interests into dynamic, applied solutions to real world problems: a great way to bridging the gap between college and career. The CUNY/IVE Leadership Program recognizes that needs of all CUNY students and provides a learning environment that allows students to design their own learning progress according to both their academic and private responsibilities. In addition, students can network and interact (online and face-to-face) with other students cross-campus. The first part of program will end with a competitive presentation in late May (date tbd). For those who complete the journey, there is the promise of quality Incubator/Internships and employment opportunities.
Over the past four years a total of 250 student leaders from all over CUNY have been supported and mentored through the CUNY/IVE Leadership Program and worked on a vast range of project ideas, proposals and implementations. Students have particularly engaged in the following areas: Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, Urban Environmentalism, and IT Solutions.
